What To Do After College: A Hands-On Career Path

What To Do After College: A Hands-On Career Path

Finishing college can feel exciting, but it can also feel overwhelming.

For months, everything has been focused on exams, deadlines, and figuring out what comes next. Then suddenly summer arrives, routines stop, and the question becomes much more real: what are you actually going to do now?

For some people, the answer is university. For others, it’s work, travel, or taking time to think. But more and more people are now looking for practical, hands-on careers that allow them to build real skills and start progressing sooner.

That’s one of the reasons barbering continues to grow.

Not Everyone Wants the Traditional Route

There’s often pressure to follow the same path as everyone else after college. But the reality is that not everyone learns the same way, and not everyone wants the same future.

Some people want:

hands-on learning

practical skills

creative work

flexibility

a career that feels more personal and social

That’s where barbering becomes a strong option to consider.

Instead of spending years purely studying theory, barbering allows students to learn through practical training, repetition, educator guidance, and real client experience from day one.

At London School of Barbering, students train in busy academy environments designed to mirror the pace and feel of the real industry. Through educator demonstrations, technical breakdowns, and hands-on training, students gradually build confidence behind the chair while learning the foundations of modern barbering.

Why Barbering Appeals to So Many Young People

Barbering is more than just learning how to cut hair.

It’s a career built around people, creativity, communication, and consistency. It gives students the opportunity to develop a real skill while working in a fast-moving and social environment.

For many people leaving college, that feels more motivating than sitting in another classroom unsure about their direction.

Barbering also offers flexibility that attracts a lot of younger people today. Whether your long-term goal is to work in a shop, become self-employed, travel, create content, or eventually open your own space, barbering can create multiple paths forward.

That flexibility is a huge reason why so many people are now considering barbering as an alternative to university.

Summer Is One of the Best Times to Start

Summer naturally becomes a moment where people start reassessing things.

College finishes. Exams end. Friends start talking about their future plans. Suddenly the idea of “I’ll think about it later” becomes harder to ignore.

That’s why summer can be one of the best times to start learning a new skill.

At LSB, the current June intake begins on 29th June, making it an ideal opportunity for students looking to use the summer productively and begin building towards a career before autumn arrives. The academy offers both a 9 Week Beginner to Job Ready Course and a 12 Week Beginner to Master Course, designed to support complete beginners through hands-on barbering education.

For students who may not be ready for the June intake, the next course date begins on 20th July, giving another opportunity to start barbering training during the summer period.

Learn Through Hands-On Training

One of the biggest differences between barbering and more traditional education routes is the learning style itself.

Barbering is practical. You improve through repetition, guidance, mistakes, corrections, and real experience.

At London School of Barbering, students work alongside educators inside the academy environment, learning:

cutting and fading techniques

sectioning and shape

clipper and scissor work

consultation skills

styling and finishing

speed and consistency

The goal is not just to watch demonstrations, but to build confidence through doing.

A Career That Can Grow With You

The barbering industry continues to evolve, and demand for skilled barbers remains strong — especially during busy periods like summer when grooming becomes a bigger priority for many clients.

The skill itself can also travel with you. Whether someone wants to work locally, freelance, move abroad, or eventually build their own brand, barbering gives people a practical skill that can continue developing over time.

That’s why so many people now see barbering as more than just a short-term job. It’s a career path that can adapt to different lifestyles and ambitions.

What’s Your Next Step?

There’s no single “right” route after college.

University works for some people. Other people want to move towards a more hands-on, practical, and creative career path sooner.

The important thing is choosing something that genuinely fits the kind of future you want to build.

If barbering is something you’ve been thinking about, summer could be the perfect time to stop waiting and start learning.

The next London School of Barbering intake begins on 29th June, with additional summer courses starting 20th July.
